A special project by Dateline photographer Leah Cayson investigates the question “What is beauty?” As she reports in her multi-media package, women can redefine female beauty.
The statistics are staggering. Seventy million people worldwide struggle with eating disorders, and one out of eight adolescent girls starve themselves to lose weight.
The numbers led Dateline Alabama photographer Leah Cayson to create her special project, “What is Beauty?” in an effort to promote positive body image among women.
By combining written stories, audio, video and still images, “What is Beauty” is a storytelling website for women who have struggled with body image. Through the site, Cayson hopes women will realize they are not alone with this issue. All women can learn and relate from these women’s stories, and together, women can redefine female beauty.
